Religious School

Beth Israel Congregation offers a religious school for children first grade through High School. The school works to foster a sense of commitment and Jewish identity in our students. It provides the young people of our congregation and their families the tools they desire to pursue lifelong study of the core texts, values, rituals and beliefs of Judaism.

Primary classes are held once a week (Sunday) and offer an introduction to religious studies, Torah and an introduction to the Hebrew language. Children third grade - 7th grade study twice a week in our Religious School (Sunday and Tuesday) and during their Bar/Bat Mitzvah year, a student also studies privately with our rabbi. Beth Israel Religious School offers a Post B'nai Mitzvah class for students who have already completed their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. This class meets twice a month on Sundays.

Bar and Bat Mitzvah Studies

Students of bar and bat mitzvah age receive special training from our Rabbi to prepare them to assume the responsibilities to become adult members of our community. In addition, students must attend three services a month (one Friday and two Saturday), during the year prior to their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Interfaith Families

Interfaith families are welcome and very involved with our congregational life. We encourage members to attend as a family so that the entire family grows to understand the Jewish traditions and culture. Our goal is to welcome and include all members regardless of their religious upbringing.

United Synagogue Youth

The USY is a program for our youth ages 13 through 18 sponsored by United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. The chapter has many opportunities to participate in regional, national and international events, which are held in Maryland, across the nation, and elsewhere in the world. The members take part in fundraisers and projects throughout the course of each year and plan and attend numerous religious and social activities. USY is a wonderful way for teens to connect with other Jewish teens and to enhance their own leadership and Judaic skills.

College Students: Hillel

Beth Israel has strong ties with Salisbury University's Hillel.

Hillel students attend our services regularly and teach in our religious education program.  Synagogue members on faculty at Salisbury University help advise the Hillel group. College students are invited to join us for the High Holidays, free of charge.
